Who was Fred Murray?

Fred was a lifelong Orioles fan.  Anyone that spoke to Fred quickly realized his love for the O’s. Not only did he enjoy going to games but he loved collecting O’s memorabilia. He would attend FanFest for many years as a visitor but in later years he became a vendor(Murray’s Collectibles). He had some of the most sought after items at FanFest. Opening Day was the kick off to Fred’s favorite time of year. For more than 30 years, Fred was at Opening Day. His last opening Day was April 11th, 2022. While Fred didn’t get to enjoy the game in the same way as previous years, he had a smile on his face and was surrounded by family.

In April of 2021 Fred was diagnosed with Grade 4 Glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer. Undergoing a medical trial surgery, the surgeons were able to remove a large cancerous mass. No regrowth occurred for several months and things looked good. In September of 2021 new growth was detected which required a difficult decision to have another surgery. This surgery was not the outcome anyone wanted and required other surgeries to help with side/after effects. Following these surgeries, Fred was not able to function on his own and required the help of his wife, Lisa. Even during this time, he fought with everything he had.

After a long and courageous fight, Fred passed away on May 17th, 2022. His love for the O’s and his family will never go away.
